Burnt Orange & Gold Autumnal Wedding

BURNT ORANGE & GOLD AUTUMNAL WEDDING AT WATERMOUTH COVE

outdoor wedding ceremony at watermouth cove

Helen and Mike’s wedding at Watermouth Cove was the perfect blend of relaxed coastal beauty, natural textures and warm, autumnal tones. Watermouth Cove is one of our favourite Devon wedding venues. The cliffside ceremony location is so dramatic it feels like you’re in another country, while the private coves and beaches mean it ticks all the boxes for couples dreaming of a coastal wedding.

When Helen and Mike first got in touch, they already had a strong vision for how they wanted their day to look. Like many couples, they had started collecting second-hand décor pieces, but were beginning to realise that not everything they had gathered was working cohesively together. Living in Bristol also meant they wanted a helping hand sourcing local suppliers to bring all the elements of their design to life.

We looked through their collection of décor and decided which pieces to use and which weren’t quite the right fit. We then suggested hire props that would complement those items and tie everything together. Next, we put together mood boards showing every element of the day, including a colour palette. These boards were shared with all suppliers, helping to ensure everyone was working towards the same look and vibe. This collaborative process meant that on the day, everything came together to create one considered design that looked amazing.

A COASTAL CEREMONY WITH FLORAL PILLARS & LOTS OF PAMPAS GRASS

The outdoor ceremony took full advantage of Watermouth Cove’s breathtaking coastal backdrop. Two floral pillars framed the ceremony space, creating a beautiful focal point. The aisle was lined with vintage vases filled with pampas grass, adding soft movement and texture.

Helen and Mike stood on a jute rug, which helped define the ceremony space and added a lovely natural texture. Mixed-height cylinder vases filled with candles were placed either side of them as they exchanged vows, adding warmth and a soft glow. The combination of natural materials, dried florals and candlelight created a setting that felt relaxed, romantic and perfectly in tune with the landscape.

HAND-DRAWN SIGNAGE AND PERSONAL DETAILS

One of our favourite elements of this wedding was the stationery and signage, lovingly designed by Helen’s sister. Featuring hand-drawn illustrations of florals and shells, the signage tied beautifully into the coastal setting and colour palette, while adding a truly personal touch.

We styled the larger signs with glass vases and wooden crates to create height and visual interest, continuing the layered, natural look throughout the venue. The hand-drawn theme also carried through onto the table styling, with table name cards based on the couple’s favourite beaches. This was such a lovely personal detail — especially as Woolacombe is a special place for Helen and Mike, making it a subtle nod to their love of the coast.

Helen and Mike also had an incredible engagement photoshoot by photographer Laura Dean. When Helen sent over the images, we knew we had to make the most of them and incorporate them into the wedding décor. We created a display using Polaroid-style printouts in gold and glass frames, styled with tealights and bud vases. Displayed in the snug area, it became a beautiful personal touch and a real talking point for guests. It’s these thoughtful details that make a wedding feel completely unique to each couple.

BURNT ORANGE & GOLD TABLESCAPES

Inside the stone house reception space, the tables were styled with burnt orange cheesecloth runners to add warmth and texture. Bud vases and vintage stone pots filled with dried flowers created an organic, relaxed feel, while candles and touches of gold brought in a subtle luxe finish. We also used our glass and gold charger plates to elevate each place setting.

The overall look was autumnal whilst still feeling luxe — a perfect reflection of Helen and Mike’s vision.

AN EXTRA-SPECIAL SWEETHEART TABLE

We always love giving the sweetheart or top table a little extra attention. After all, it’s your wedding day and it’s where so many photos and special moments happen.

For Helen and Mike, we moved the ceremony floral pillars to frame the sweetheart table and placed peacock chairs behind the table to create a real focal point. We also re-used the mixed-height cylinder vases, candles and some of the meadow flowers from the ceremony at the base of the table. It all paid off beautifully and the photos of Helen and Mike in this space look incredible.

WORKING WITH HELEN & MIKE

From our very first call, we instantly clicked with Helen and Mike. We worked together for over a year, refining ideas, sourcing pieces and shaping a design that truly reflected them.

A year later, they came to see us again at the Watermouth Cove open day and surprised us with a handwritten thank you card. It was such a thoughtful gesture and a lovely reminder of why we love what we do!
